Duties of the Executive officer, Downs sailing club

 

1.                  Substituting Duties. Club members are allocated safety boat, race officer or canteen and asked to find a suitable substitute if they cannot make it, However by default they are asked to contact the executive officer if making a change.

2.                  Open the club at least one  hour before the first race is due to start.

3.                  Weather forecast. Obtain local weather forecast. Most suitable may be the inshore forecast available on BBC teletext page 409, marine call 09014 757626, internet http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast/ or http://www.bbc.co.uk/kent/weather/index.shtml   or linked via club website . Inshore forecast also available on radio Kent on Sunday am at 8.30

4.                  Planning. Check that duty officers have arrived in time for the planning of the event and discuss re safety of racing noting weather and personnel. The sailing committee will be setting the race course.

5.                  Decision to sail. The final decision on whether to go afloat or abandon sailing rests with the Race officer after taking advice from suitable members. (The executive officer may be afloat)

6.                  Club boats hire. We would like this to be signed for and paid for before going afloat. Monitor activity and check signed on.

7.                  Equipment check. Check equipment at end of session and report any damage or problems to.

8.                   Accident book. If any injury occurs please record in accident book located on notice board under bridge

9.                  Untoward incident. Advise the commodore of any major event such as entrapment, significant personal injury or major gear failure.

10.               Security check. Check fuel out of safety boats, radios turned off, hoses turned off at tap, fuel locker locked, boat house lights off and door locked. Outside drive gate locked, race box electrics turned off, horn inside, door locked windows shut. Downstairs check changing rooms windows shut lights and showers off. At this stage (!) it might be possible to delegate locking the main club to anybody left at the bar but if last to leave shut curtains check canteen locked winches off at master switch keys back on hook all lights off, alarm on.
